Care and Maintainence for Outdoor Olefin Fabric Cushions
Although our cushions are made for outdoor use, there will be fading of the fabric due to its exposure to
light and the sun’s UV rays. Whether, you have an outdoor patio set made with canvas, olefin or
polyester material, all fabric will fade. All of Pacific Casual’s fabrics are lab tested and exceed industry
standard for outdoor use. Fading of fabrics can vary greatly depending on the region of the country and
environment they are exposed to. For example, desert states with intense heat will fade faster than the
more moderate climates. Fabrics exposed to direct sunlight will fade faster than those located on
covered porches and decks. Darker colors fade faster than lighter colors so it is impossible to say how
long the fabric will hold its color. The limited warranty covers separation at the seams for one year but
excludes “fading of finish or fabrics as a result of exposure to elements”.
In the event the fabric cushions are allowed to sit in the rain/snow/ice and fill with water you can easily
drain the water out. You will want to sit or hang the cushion from one corner. Do not sit them flat or on
one side/edge of the cushion. Hanging/sitting on one corner allowes the water to completely drain out
of the smallest point so that all of the water can drain from the cushion fill/padding.
Fabric cushions that are placed in a pool area or in environments exposed to salt water will tend to
break-down the fabric quickly, chlorine as well as salt water is extremely damaging to ANY type of fabric.
Proper steps will need to be taken to protect the fabric in order to avoid this type of fabric break-down.
When cleaning fabric cushions it is best to hand wash using a mild soap (dish soap or gentle fabric
cleaners) and allow to air dry only. Machine washing and drying may cause the fabric to shrink as well
as damage the fabric during the wash and dry cycle inside the machine.
It is highly suggested that you purchase outdoor furniture covers for your patio set in order to protect the
cushions when not in use and to prevent these instances from occurring. You may also, look into a
weatherproofing product that can be applied to the fabric to help prevent fading. I am attaching two links
below one link will be to a website that sells patio furniture covers and the other link is to a weatherproofing
product for outdoor fabric. Do not treat the fabric with any product that comes in an aerosol can such as
ScotchGuard. These products contain alcohol and will dry the fabric and cause the fabric to become
brittle:

The above websites are simply companies that I have researched and found on-line, you may want to
research these products on your own prior to purchasing.
