Fire Pit Tables Buying Guide
Picture this: it’s early October, the kind of evening where the air has just enough of a bite to remind you summer’s gone. But you’re not inside. Instead, you’re out back, settled into your favorite chair, a cold drink in hand, and a low, steady flame dancing at the center of the table. The conversation flows. The grill’s been fired up. Nobody’s going anywhere.
That’s the fire pit table effect. And right now, it’s the single most in-demand feature in outdoor living design.
Over the past few years, fire pit tables have gone from a luxury upgrade to a backyard staple—and it’s easy to understand why. They do what no other piece of outdoor furniture can: bring heat, ambiance, and a natural gathering point together in one stunning package. Whether you’re building out a full outdoor kitchen or simply refreshing your patio for the season, a fire pit table changes the entire feel of your space.

Why Fire Pit Tables Are Dominating Outdoor Design
The outdoor living market has always been competitive, but fire pit tables have carved out a category all their own with the demand only continuing to climb. Here’s why they’ve become a go-to for homeowners who take their outdoor space seriously:
They’re 2-in-1. A fire pit table functions as a dining table, a lounge table, or a conversation centerpiece—all with a built-in flame that guests will immediately gravitate toward. You’re not giving up square footage; you’re doubling what it does.
They extend your season. A well-placed fire pit table can push your outdoor entertaining well into fall and even into early spring. That’s months of extra use out of your patio setup.
They elevate the space instantly. There’s something about a fire that transforms an outdoor area. It becomes a destination, not just a backyard. Guests linger. Nights stretch.
They fit every budget. Fire pit tables are more accessible than ever, with solid options ranging from entry-level to full luxury. Whether you’re spending $500 or $5,000, there’s a table built for your space.
They’re a design statement. Today’s fire pit tables rival indoor furniture in style and craftsmanship. From sleek, modern concrete to warm, rustic stone, these aren’t afterthoughts anymore. They’re now the anchor of the entire patio aesthetic.
Propane, Natural Gas, or Wood-Burning: Which Fuel Type Is Right for You?
Propane Fire Pit Tables
- Portable and flexible, and no gas line required. Move it around the patio, take it to a second home, rearrange your layout whenever you want.
- Flame height adjusts easily, giving you full control over heat output and ambiance.
- Propane tanks need occasional swapping, but most tables run 6–8 hours on a single 20 lb tank. That’s enough for a full evening, then some.
- Best for: renters, seasonal users, or anyone who hasn’t locked in a permanent outdoor layout yet.
Natural Gas Fire Pit Tables
- Requires a dedicated natural gas line, meaning a permanent installation, but that’s exactly what makes it so convenient in the long term.
- Virtually unlimited fuel supply at a lower ongoing cost than propane. Fire it up anytime, no tank runs required.
- A natural choice if you’re building out a full outdoor kitchen setup where a gas line is already in play.
- Best for: homeowners committed to their outdoor space who want the most seamless, always-ready experience.
Wood-Burning Fire Pit Tables
- Nothing replicates the authentic crackle, smell, and visual depth of a real wood fire. It’s a visceral, sensory experience that propane and gas simply can’t match.
- More upkeep involved as you’ll be dealing with ash cleanup, sourcing and storing dry wood, and managing a real fire.
- Always check local burn ordinances before purchasing. Some municipalities restrict open-flame wood burning.
- Best for: the outdoor enthusiast who wants the full, traditional campfire experience in their backyard.

Style, Materials & What to Look For
The good news: fire pit tables have never looked better. The not-so-great news: with so many options, it can feel a little overwhelming. Here’s how to cut through the noise.
Materials That Hold Up Outdoors
- Powder-coated steel: durable, weather-resistant, and available in a wide range of colors and finishes. A workhorse material that still looks sharp.
- Concrete: incredibly sturdy with a modern, architectural look. Heavy by nature, which makes it great for permanent setups.
- Faux stone: delivers the natural look of stone at a lighter weight and lower price point.
- Aluminum: lightweight, rust-proof, and ideal for coastal or high-humidity climates.
- Teak: warm, rich, and naturally weather resistant. Teak ages beautifully but requires occasional oiling to maintain its look.
Styles Worth Knowing
- Modern/Minimalist: clean lines, neutral palettes, geometric shapes. Pairs well with sleek outdoor furniture and contemporary homes.
- Rustic/Farmhouse: warm wood tones, stone textures, a lived-in feel. The outdoor version of cozy.
- Mediterranean/Tuscan: ornate detail, warm terracotta tones, old-world charm. Makes any patio feel like a destination.
- Transitional: the style that plays well with everything. If you’re not sure, start here.
- Coastal: light colors, weather-resistant materials, and relaxed styling designed to complement beach-inspired patios.
A Few Things to Nail Before You Buy
- BTU output: more isn’t always better. Match the BTU rating to your space. A 50,000 BTU table in a cozy 10 × 10 patio can feel overwhelming; a 30,000 BTU table in a sprawling outdoor living area won’t cut it.
- Table dimensions: think about how many guests you typically entertain. A 48" round table seats 4–6 comfortably; larger rectangular options can anchor an outdoor dining setup for 8 or more.
- Cover and accessories: a quality cover is one of the best investments you can make. It dramatically extends the life of your table, especially through off-season months.
- What to avoid: untreated wood frames near open flame, non-weather-resistant cushions on nearby seating, and undersized ignition systems that make lighting a chore.
